How Great is Your Vision?

Several years ago, I heard someone preach a message entitled “Your Vision is Too Small!” That message was so dynamic because it caused me to wonder whether or not I truly had a vision for my life that was as grand as it could possibly be. How often have you had a dream or vision for your life, ministry, business, or relationships that made you question whether or not it was on the same level that God sees for you? In all honesty, I don’t think we ever dream or envision things as quite as grand as God does. He’s God, of course. However, does our dream truly reach for the stars, or do we settle for what we only think is realistically possible?

For example, how often have you heard people say that they are praying and expect a billion-soul harvest? That seems astronomical, doesn’t it? However, when you consider that there are reported estimates of already 2+ billion people who profession the name of Jesus as Lord, and a rough estimate of nearly 8-Billion people in the world today, how grand is only adding another one billion people? Can you believe for more? Can you believe for more than a gain of one billion when there are nearly five billion waiting?

It’s easy to say, I can only handle this much but what if God said I see you handling so much more? We’re told that his yoke is easy and burdens are light (Matthew 11:30). If that is true, it is only so because we are yoked up with Jesus and he is bearing the majority of the weight. How much more can we accomplish if we are only able to dream bigger?

You’ve probably heard the question, “what would you do if money or time were not a barrier?” Think about that for just a moment and consider the possibilities. How many people could you reach with the gospel, a business, or something else entirely?

Every step of faith you take is a seed planted. We’re told that when we sow seeds of faith, we should have an expectation of a harvest of 30-fold at the minimum and 100-fold at its greatest. That’s not a dividend or percentage; it’s synergistic growth. The question that you need to ask yourself is whether or not you value the light and the anointing that is within you.

It’s easy to see the world as dark and unredeemable but the reality is that Jesus already did the hard part when he paid the price on the cross. He then turned the keys of the Kingdom over to us who are his agents, his culture healers to do the work of reconciliation. You never know the depth of joy that comes from the little things that you do in a day. A smile alone can shift atmospheres. A compliment can melt hearts of stone. A simple gesture can be the catalyst for changing a generation.

Do you have the capacity to expand your vision? Jesus actually cast the vision for Peter by letting him know that he would go from being a fisherman to becoming a fisher of men. He then spent the next three and a half years modeling for Peter what that looked like. When the Holy Spirit filled all those who were in the Upper room on the day of Pentecost, Peter began to reveal that He had captured the vision and was now living it out.

Like Peter, we all must see and hear what God has called us, get a glimpse of how Jesus modeled that, and with the help of the Holy Spirit begin to carry out the vision. As culture healers, your vision can be larger than the salvation of a billion souls. Your vision can be global cultural transformation. With God, nothing is impossible (Luke 1:37). With Him, all things are possible (Matthew 19:26). So, don’t let your vision be too small.
