One Year into the Build Back Better Plan

If you have been following what I have been writing over the last few weeks you will know that I have spent several posts talking about building. I would like to take a moment today to reflect on President Joseph R. Biden’s initiative to “Build Back Better.” It always made me curious during the 2020 campaign when then-candidate Biden ran stating that his campaign was a “Battle for the Soul of America!” There were many who paid very close attention to that statement while others let those words fly over their heads. It’s even possible that as both the RNC and DNC conventions were held, many refused to see what was happening before them.

In the natural, we know that one’s soul is a composite of the mind, will, and emotions. In other words, it is how and where we think, what we feel, and how we decide our actions. If the 2020 election was a battle for the “soul of the nation,” then what is it that is within the mind, will, and emotions of this nation that is being fought for? If one candidate has stated that his view of the nation was to keep America Great, while another said his desire was to build back better, what makes this a battle for the American soul? Could it be that there is more to “build back better” than might have been communicated?

In one year since becoming the occupant of the White House, Mr. Biden has, through his administration removed America from being energy independent. He has also retied the country to an ecological treaty that has made America financially subjugated, despite being the most eco-friendly and responsible country in the world. He has pulled resources that would have continued to secure the Southern border. He attempted to force citizens to accept a medical procedure under duress; and when many resisted, he, along with state governors solicited corporations to threaten employees with the termination of their careers and loss of income and even to completely cancel them from participation in daily activities. The cancellations included the inability to travel, eating out or enjoying any entertainment, and in some places shopping or even going to church required vaccination or at the very least being masked and isolated.

If this is a brief glimpse into the idea of “building back better,” then the question becomes, how is the soul of America faring? Is the soul of the nation flourishing or suffering from a self-inflicted famine? In the last year alone, cargo ships were unable to dock at US ports. These ships are responsible for delivering the goods that we import and export in and out of the country. This has impacted every aspect of commerce. Grocery stores are suffering from bare shelves. Auto shops are unable to repair vehicles due to supply chain issues. Fast food restaurants are struggling with food and labor shortages. If the impact of the pandemic wasn’t enough, the supply chain issues are likely to be the death knell for many retail chains and department stores that were already feeling the heat.

The “Build Back Better” campaign and program is not one that boasts well for the soul of America and must be reversed if America is to remain the “land of the free.” The quest for freedom must come at the hands, not of the next president or political savant. It must come at the hands of the people who will awaken to the reality that America is now quickly being suffocated like an animal in the grips of a python. The spirit that has been loosed in D.C. must be seized so that the soul of America can find her peace and the abundant life it was meant to exude. Let’s pray that America remembers her greatness and demands that she become a beacon of hope and bastion of freedom once more!
