The Time to Build is Now

Just before we came into the new year, I had a conversation with someone about building a business. I don’t exactly recall how the conversation began but I was amazed by the direction the conversation went. As we talked, it appeared that the person I was speaking to was not in favor of where we are as a nation and that the thought of building a business did not seem particularly ideal. When I asked why they felt the way they did, this person believed that the economy and the pandemic both added up to factors that were more than problematic.

Have you ever had the thought that the timing was not right to build something? What did you base your assessment on? Did you do your own due diligence or did you allow the voices of others and what things appear to be to discourage you? Odds are likely that the discouragement from other people and how things appear are often the producers of fear. What many people fail to do is look for the opportunities that will stir their faith to build.
What’s interesting is that I happened to listen to someone the other day speaking about podcasting and he said something very profound. He said that the greatest time to start a podcast was about 10-12 years ago when it first became possible to do so. He then went on to say that the next best time to start a podcast is right now. The same can be said for business. The best time to build a business is right now.
It seems odd to say this in the midst of an economic decline, the current rate of inflation and supply chain issues, and so many other things that appear to be obstacles. Yet, isn’t it interesting that the wealthiest people in the world have managed to double their wealth, begin new ventures, and capitalize in the midst of what might otherwise be seen as a famine?
Joseph was the son of Jacob, also known as Israel. He found himself in Egypt at a time when things seemed to be quite favorable for the Pharaoh; at least until he had a dream that frightened him. Joseph interpreted the Pharaoh’s dream and informed him that a pandemic or famine was coming. With God-given wisdom, Joseph also gave Pharaoh the plan to save Egypt from being overcome by the threat of that pandemic.
I believe that if God has given you a desire to build a business, the best time to do it is now. Whether in good times or bad, God can give you what you need to do that. What resources are available to you that might not have been available to you five years ago? What skills have you gained that you did not have three years ago? What connections have you made, what passions have been stirred since God placed the dream in your heart?
Now is the time when you can write the vision, count the cost, take your talents, skills, and abilities, and begin the work of building. I’ve been sharing for the last two years that we are in the season that God is emphasizing those who have the capacity for building. If you believe that you are that person, this is your time. Now is your time to build.
